Doctor Who: The Mutants (Story 63)
Posted in DVD on November 15th, 2010 by admin – Comments OffAs for the rest of The Doctor Who Mutants, it’s weighed down with stock graphemes like Honourable Moron Warrior and Vaguely Germanic Scientist and overstuffed with escapisms, retakings and digressions to the long winded Radiation Room. And there’s too much of material going on for no very full reason. It views as if four regions were originally commissioned and then another two were hurriedly scrawled out on the railroad train up Doctor Who Mutants to Television Centre, which is a ignominy, because the bloody nasty last two portions tend to overshadow the not-nearly-so-bad first four.
One thing we regain interesting about it is the very stiff Blake’s 7 tone. The outfits the Skybase cluster article of clothing are dead ringers for Avon’s usual yarns, and the existence drawn, with the tight human beings trampling all over the topical anesthetics, is very Blakey in feel. And lay the Marshall in a diving neckline and squint a bit and it’s Servalan to the life sentence. Okay, maybe not. But it’s intriguing all the same.
